The surroundings

The villa Die Gans is located on the outskirts of the small and quiet village of Elsenborn, in the municipality of Bütgenbach, close to the High Fens Nature Park. This area is rich in sports, cultural and tourist activities.
A large public playground has been set up near the village church.

Aquatic sports are permitted on the Bütgenbach lake, which is 2 km from the villa. The lake offers many possibilities for activities: cycling or walking (with pram), the public beach of Berg or the private beach of Worriken with water games, pedal boats and fine sand.

In Bütgenbach you will also find the East Belgium Tourism Office, a playground, a “Vita” course, a mini-golf course, an indoor swimming pool and many possibilities for sports and adventure activities, two supermarkets (Carrefour Market and Aldi), as well as several restaurants (traditional, local, gastronomic, Chinese and Italian cuisine).

In Herzebösch, Bütgenbach, Weywertz, Signal de Botrange (Belgium’s highest point), Baraque Michel or Ovifat, you can enjoy sledging, cross-country skiing or downhill skiing (Ovifat only). There are signposted routes in the surrounding woods for cycling and skiing. It is possible to rent skis or bikes in the area.

For your cultural activities, we suggest a visit to Reinhardstein Castle, by the lake of Robertville, or to the many museums in Monschau, Saint-Vith, Malmedy, Stavelot and Spa.
You can taste the local products on the Christmas markets in winter or on the Provence markets in summer.

The Spa-Francorchamps motor racing circuit offers you the opportunity to practice motor sports according to the annual circuit schedule.
